Nick Reviews: Now With 100% Less “WordPress” In The URL!

pic completely unrelated.

Well, I finally bit the bullet and spent 25 bucks on a domain!  Honestly, my funds are running a little low right now, but the lack of “.wordpress” in the URL makes it a lot simpler to tell people about my blog.  It also gives an air of “professionalism” to it as well, at least to me (ignore the fact that I’m using a default wordpress theme that probably many others are using.  It’s the content that matters…at least for now).

With this air of professionalism and official…ness surrounding the blog, things are about to get a lot more serious here at Nick Reviews.  I’ve actually put money into this project now, and I want to succeed.  I finally feel driven; I could see myself doing this as a career, really.  And one of the coolest things about popular blogs or music sites is the fact that they get to do a lot of awesome stuff – like hear albums before they’re released (or even leaked) and get interviews with the artists.  I would love to be able to work my way up to that level.  And to be completely honest, it wouldn’t be for the popularity or an ego boost (although those things are certainly nice).  Simply speaking, it would make me happy to get to interview artists I enjoy, or review their albums for the public.  Nick Reviews has been and always will be about recommending cool things to people, showing people new things – and I will never review or write about something on this blog that I don’t enjoy, or I that I expected to enjoy.  There will be negative reviews and write-ups, yes – but they will be reviews of artists I had enjoyed in the past.

I have a loose schedule for the next few months, and I’m really excited to bring new content to you guys on a consistent basis.  There’s a real preparation for the future of this site, and I have high hopes for it.  On tap for the next few months: weekly (for real this time) Nicklists, and weekly or monthly Records of the Week (Or Month).  I’ll also be delivering almost weekly movie and music reviews starting in a few weeks, and there will be some reviews of all media (I even have a video game review planned!) scattered in between these weekly posts.

In addition, I hope to do some pieces that focus more on music as a whole that even feature some of my friend’s opinions on the subject.

I hope those of you reading this are going to at least give the site a try for a while to see what you think.  If you like what you read, bookmark it or subscribe to the RSS feed (and most of all, share it with your friends).  And remember, comments are always appreciated!

Thank You!

Hey guys, Just wanted to take a couple minutes to thank everyone who has read this blog over the past couple of months.  This month has been huge for me (I have almost 1000 views thus far, this blog will probably make that number go over 1000 ) and it makes me feel very good that there’s people out there who click on the “read more” link on my articles and read them.  I’m not sure if I have any people, aside from close friends and family, who read this blog on a regular basis…but if you’re out there, I’d love to hear from you.  Eventually, I’d love for this blog to get 20-30 comments per post, of people discussing the content I write about, the music I review, etc.  It would be so cool to have actual fans of my blog, people who get enjoyment out of every post and all that.  I’m a huge lover of reading blogs (I’ll post some links to a few I have been enjoying lately at the end of this post).

As far as upcoming plans in the next couple months – well, as soon as I upload the file, Nick’s Tape Vol. 1 (clever title, eh?) will be posted, a collection of songs by some artists that either aren’t very well known or almost entirely unknown.  I saw the “Favorite Records of the Week” category on my homepage and I thought about how I need to do another one of those soon as well, especially since I’ve been getting into a few new albums during the past couple weeks.

Anyways, one last time – thanks.  I sincerely appreciate the support, whoever you are.  Make sure to check the blog in the future!

Explanation

Hey guys!!!  I know it’s been a while…about three weeks in fact.  However, I’m happy to inform you all that the blog will be back up starting tomorrow.  I very recently (meaning today) finished my first semester of community college, which leaves me with a lot more time to write blogs.  I’ll be off until February, so hopefully this blog will get more active in the coming months.

Tomorrow, expect a “Favorite Records of the Week” post: I’ve been listening to a lot of cool new stuff this week that I really enjoy, so I have a lot to talk about.  Also, one of my favorite musicians, John Frusciante, has left his band, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Josh Klinghoffer has replaced him, so i will definitely need to comment on that in the next few days.

So yeah, just giving you guys an update.  I will not let this blog die!

-Nick

P.S. I am now a news blogger for the popular Weezer website All Things Weezer, so check there periodically to see if i’ve posted anything.  Also, my friends Sammy and Alex have a radio show for Cal State Long Beach, which I will be a guest on.  It airs live on next Wednesday, 12/23/09, between 11am-12pm, so be sure to check that out.  I’ll be playing some of my songs and choosing a few of my favorite songs for them to play.  It should be fun.
